Montessori Children’s Cottage
“The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experience.”
Dr. Maria Montessori
History of Our School:
Montessori Children’s Cottage and Children’s Cottage Infant Center are licensed by the Texas Department of Human and Regulatory Services.
Montessori Children’s Cottage first opened in January 1970 with four children in a morning class. In 1972, Montessori Children’s Cottage was the first Montessori School in Houston to offer a full day program for working parents. Two years later, the school became incorporated as a Texas Corporation. It has always been family owned and operated, non-sectarian, and in compliance with all federal and state standards and regulations.
In 1984, Children’s Cottage Infant Center opened after considerable research. It was the first Center offering a full day program for infants from six weeks through eighteen months.
Today the schools continue to be family owned and operated. The school is located off 290-610 and is centrally located between the Heights and Oak Forest.
Our Montessori Philosophy:
Our classrooms are designed to appeal to the child. Everything is custom sized to facilitate the child's independence and development. The Montessori teacher links the children to the materials and guides the children toward constructive activity. Each child works at his or her own pace and the child has the freedom of movement in the classroom. Children pursue their own self-paced curriculum and learning takes place individually or in small groups. The Montessori method develops the whole personality of the child, not merely his intellectual faculties, but also to become a self-directed, self-disciplined person.
